WARFALL: Realms at war
A downloadable game
Check out Warfall 2: https://strike-forge-games.itch.io/warfall-ii simpler and faster, less managing of actions
Warfall is a fast-paced, tactical, print-and-play skirmish card game for 1-2 players. Designed to let you build armies using the miniatures you already own, Warfall offers an unmatched freedom and tactical variety. Whether you are fielding cybernetic soldiers, medieval knights or post-apocalyptic survivors, you can create a legal, balanced warband in minutes using our archetype cards or customize each of your mini's stats.
In Warfall, your playing cards are the core mechanic. Use cards to attack, defend, determine initiative, move, and measure. The dice are used to keep track of damage and conditions.
Choose between a standard poker deck or our immersive, themed Warfall deck (included free)
No Rulers. Just cards and war. One deck to rule your warband.
Player modes
- Duel (1v1): Challenge a friend in a fast and brutal skirmish of wits, card management, placement and risk.
- Solo play (1 player): Take on tactical missions against the Warfall AI system.
- Adventure mode (1 player): Explore an open world map, deal with events, fight, gain money to recruit new units until you are ready to take on your purpose (kill a boss, loot a dungeon, etc.)
Game structure:
Playing cards:
- You play cards from your hand to attack, defend, move, and determine initiative
- Each unit has different values in these aspects and unique abilities
- Play one main card from your hand; you may combine with other cards in your hand, or from the top of your discard pile of the same suit or value to boost the main card's value, up to your unit's combo limit in the aspect. (2-10, J=11, Q=12, K=13, A=14, J=15)
- You can play any card for any aspect, but Spades apply +2 to attack, Hearts: +2 to defense, Diamonds: +2 initiative, Clubs: +2 move
Setup:
- Choose an era to play in (Fantasy, medieval, post-apocalyptic, cyberpunk, etc.)
- Each player builds a 30-point warband using pre-made unit cards and matches minis OR chooses minis he owns, and based on the miniature's equipment, using a chart, he determines its aspects' combo limits and chooses its abilities.
- Build a 2 x 2 up to a 3 x 3 battlefield that inspires you using terrain (or cards standing as terrain)
- Each player draws 7 cards from his deck (You may use the Warfall custom decks or standard poker cards)
Phases:
Initiative phase
- Players play cards face down up to their unit's initiative value next to each of their units.
- Reveal all the initiative cards
- Each player draws back to 7 cards.
Activation phase
- Starting with the unit with the highest initiative value, that unit receives 3 actions + #bolsters - # fatigue, and then the player decides if he waits or activates the unit.
Activating: The unit removes his guard tokens and spends his actions, but repeating the same action costs more (First attack costs 1 action, 2nd attack costs 2 actions, etc)
A unit can move, attack, bolster, guard, loot, reload, and focus during its activation
- Move: Play cards up the activating unit's move combo limit to receive the value in movement points (MP). 5 MP is the short side of a poker card, OR 2 MP for a hex or square grid if you use pre-made maps.
- Attack: Play cards up to the attacking unit's combo limit, the defender plays cards up to its defense combo limit; the difference is the damage. If the unit suffers damage equal to its toughness, it dies. The attacks use back arc and flanking tactics. The defender, must move back 2MP; if he cannot or will not, apply -1 to his defense value, the attacker may follow. This creates movement and causes players to take advantage of the terrain to put an enemy in a bad position where he cannot move back.
- Bolster: Gain an extra action next activation
- Guard: Gain a guard token, remove it to apply + 1 to a defense card played
- Focus: Draw 2 cards, then discard 2 cards OR discard X cards and draw X cards. Lets you rearrange your hand
- Loot: Killed units remain on the battlefield, any adjacent unit may loot it, roll on a random table to find consumables (Ex: bandages to heal yourself, or poison to apply to your weapons, etc.). Remove the killed mini after.
- Reload a weapon
- Want to do more than your 3 actions, gain fatigue for each extra action spent. Each fatigue applies -1 to the cards played until your next initiative
When you decide to end your unit's activation, declare it so:
- Remove the initiative card assigned to it
- Place it on top or at the bottom of your discard pile,
- The controller and his opponent draw back to 7 cards
- Go back to the unit with the highest initiative card and repeat all units have activated
When all units have activated:
- The turn ends, go back to the initiative phase
- Repeat until one side achieves the win conditions
Warfall adapts to how you want to play, casual or competitive, solo or with friends, quick fights or extended campaigns.
This is an early version of Warfall. The rules are complete and playable, but the game is still undergoing balance adjustments, wording refinements, and visual polish.

- Experience fail-forward storytelling
- Earn gold to by better gear, food, or recruit new units in your warband
- Gain experience to acquire new abilities
- Shop, gamble, bet, purchase buildings in different cities, each with unique price and interactions
- Manage your warband's resources like food and gold, while exploring

I have a tutorial in the rulebook, but it is at the end. I am working to do a quick start guide to let players dive in, so feedback is great right now.
